Giselle has been a stitcher and crafter all her life, and a serious Art Quilter for about fifteen years. She is a professional horticulturist, as well, and enjoys creating quilts depicting tropical rainforests. Giselle teaches advanced machine art embroidery and quilting techniques, and was the Cat Crafts contributing editor to CATS Magazine for over three years.
On a visit to Puerto Vallarta in 1996 she met the painter/sculptor
Tellosa through a mutual friend. She instantly fell in love with
the vibrancy of his paintings, and envisioned them executed as
art quilts. Giselle and Tellosa began collaborating in 1997, with
Tellosa creating sketches and paintings for Giselle to interpret
in her quilt medium. Giselle brought the first fruits of this
labor to Vallarta in early 1998 for a premier showing in Tellosa's
studio gallery, Bezan.
It seems that both artists are cat lovers, and cat images appear
in most every quilt, although sometimes it's not obvious at first
glance. Giselle enjoys quilting with a wide diversity of materials,
from artist-dyed fabrics to imported Balinese batiks and hand-dyes,
to commercial conversation print fabrics. Exotic threads, yarns,
and bead embellishments are lavish and colorful.
Tellosa was born in Tacambaro, Michoacan, Mexico. Raised in Guadalajara, he spent five years in California during his childhood. He also lived in London, England for 17 years and traveled extensively through Europe during that time.
His work includes painting and mixed media collage, bronze and steel sculpture, jewelry, and more. Tellosa has exhibited in Guadalajara, Mexico City, London, Zurich, Adelaide, Melbourne, New York, and Puerto Vallarta.
