Juxtaposition

I wanted to express the give and take, push and pull of the two disparate parts
of my life, horticulture and needle arts. Sometimes one or the other is dominant,
but most of the time they blend and flow together harmoniously.

Each block comprises two Bali batik fabrics fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle and embellished with decorative handmade cords and threads. The rings and circles join
and flow from block to block, as does the background quilting. the orange sashing is hand dyed cotton by David Walker.

This piece began its life in a workshop with David Walker in 1997.
