Prayers For Compassion
CQA Challenge: Rituals
2000
24"h x 20"w
SOLD
For the Contemporary QuiltArt
Association Rituals Challenge I received a piece of silk with
six identical woven-in Buddha motifs. I cut it up and re-assembled
it into nine kaleidoscopic hexagons.
In Buddhism prayer wheels
are used to spread spiritual blessings and well being. There
are several traditional Japanese hexagonal symbols for prayer
wheels as well, so I incorporated one of them into the quilting
design.
Silk challenge fabrics from
Warren and Nancy Brakensiek, other silks from Thailand, rayon
threads, vintage buttons. Machine pieced, appliqued and quilted.
